Residual Resistance
Principle:
The principle of measuring temperature with a thermistor is that
its resistance changes with temperature. Most thermistors differ
from ordinary resistors in that they have a negative resistivity,
meaning that resistance decreases as temperature increases.
Negative (NTC) thermistors are more common, although positive (PTC)
thermistors can be used.
Material, type and size:
Thermistors are bulk semiconductor devices and as such can be
manufactured in a variety of forms. More common ones include discs,
beads and rods. Sizes do vary from 1mm beads to discs a few
centimeters in diameter and thickness.
There are different types of thermistors, most of which respond
differently to changes in temperature. Thermistors are not linear
and their response curves vary from type to type. Some thermistors
have a nearly linear temperature-resistance relationship, others
have a sharp change in slope (sensitivity) at a specific
characteristic temperature.
The main advantage
The main feature of a thermistor is its high sensitivity. Its
temperature coefficient of resistance is 10-100 times that of
metal. It can detect temperature changes of 10-6°C; the working
temperature range is wide, the normal temperature device is
suitable for -55°C ~ 315°C, the high temperature device is suitable
for temperatures above 315°C (before 2000°C), and the low
temperature device is suitable for- 273°C ~ 55°C; small size, can
measure the temperature of the voids, cavities and blood vessels in
the human body, which cannot be measured by other thermometers;
easy to use, the resistance value is in the range of 0.1 ~ 100kΩ;
any choice between them; easy to process into Complex shape, mass
production; good stability, strong overload capacity.
