The 1794-IRT8 module is an AB FLEX I/O millivolt, thermocouple, and RTD module. It is not conformally coated. The 1794-IRT8 module is meant to be part of a complete AB FLEX I/O system that can perform all the same application functions as a rack-based I/O system. In a FLEX I/O system, the 1794-IRT8 module is connected to a terminal base and a power adapter. The module contains the application circuitry and the bus interface, the terminal base has a terminal strip that can terminate both 2-wire and 3-wire devices, and the adapter transfers the read and the write data to and from the module. The Series B version of the AB The 1794-IRT8 FLEX I/O module can work with grounded thermocouples.

When the AB 1794-IRT8 module (Series B) is being used in thermocouple mode, it needs to use cold junction compensators, and it ships with 2 cold junction compensators for just this purpose. The 1794-IRT8 module has a nominal voltage rating of 24 Volts DC and 8 analog inputs. It can connect to up to 8 RTD or thermocouple inputs. The front panel of the 1794-IRT8 module has a nameplate that identifies the module, a removable label that the users can customize, a keyswitch position indicator, and an indicator that lets the users know of the module is powered on or off. The 1794-IRT8 module has isolation between the user side and the system side of the module. It can use the RSLogix 5000 software. With the RSLogix 5000 software, the Series B 1794-IRT8 module can replace the Series A 1794-IRT8 module without triggering an electronic key mismatch warning.
